Hubert Lee Seaton

May 7, 1914 — April 16, 2006

Mr. Seaton was born and reared in the New Friendship Community of Chester County, the son of the late Frank Lamar and Cora Peddy Seaton. He grew up on the farm and was one of eleven children. He attended Bray School and then Chester County High School, graduating in 1931. He farmed as a young man and worked for the Chester County Hwy Department for four years.



Mr. Seaton was the first man drafted from Chester County into World War II and spent almost five years in the Army as a member of the 10th Armored Division attached to General Patton’s Third Army. He received a shrapnel wound in Germany, Thanksgiving 1944. He was awarded the Bronze Star and one cluster for exemplary leadership and personal bravery for his part in securing a bridge across the Saar River. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded by rifle fire in Bastogne the day after Christmas, 1944. He attained the rank of Staff Sargeant and received the Purple Heart for services to his country. He had served in the European Theatre of Operations, serving in France, Luxemburg, Belgium, and Germany.



After the service Mr. Seaton was a life long farmer, and also worked as a gasoline distributor for the Chester Farmer’s Co-Op for 29 years.



Mr. Seaton was elected to the Chester County Quarterly Court in 1960 and served consecutive terms for a total of 42 years. He served six years as chairman of the County Court and County Judge, and as Chairman Protem for 16 years. He served on many boards of the County Commission during his tenure, most notably serving 32 years on the County Nursing Home Board. He was instrumental in the development and construction of the Nursing Home as well as being instrumental is starting the county fire department, and the Highway 45 by-pass construction project.



As a volunteer Mr. Seaton served on the Advisory Board of the Southwest Tennessee Development District and served on the Southwest Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability Advisory Council for over 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, New Friendship Community Club, the Chester County Farm Bureau and the Chester County Democratic Executive Committee.



He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as church treasurer for 37 years, served as Sunday School Superintendent, and continued to serve as a deacon until his death.



In February 2005 Mr. Seaton was honored at the annual banquet of the Chester County/City of Henderson Chamber of Commerce as its’ Outstanding Citizenship Award recipient.



Mr. Seaton is survived by his wife of sixty years, Tylene Butler Seaton, a son Dwain Seaton and wife Nona, and two grandchildren Dwain Seaton, Jr. and wife Tammy and Dana Berry and husband Jamie all of Henderson and eight great grandchildren.



He is also survived by two brothers; F. L. Seaton, Jr. of Henderson and George Seaton of San Bernando, CA and four sisters Velma Sells, Nola Webb, and Maurine Talley all of Henderson and Allene Frix of Memphis.



Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Tuesday at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Coleman, Rev. Ronnie Sells, and Neal Smith officiating and burial will follow with Military Honors in the Friendship Cemetery.



Pall bearers will be Deacons of the Friendship Baptist Church: Billy Neal Priddy, Robert Brewer, Boyd Cupples, Donald Rowlett, Kenneth Maness, and Steve Priddy.



Honorary pall bearers will be great grandchildren: Will, Brett, Emily, and Mason Seaton, Timothy, Brandon, and Seth Berry, and Morgan Thomas.



The family will receive friends at Casey Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 PM today.
