Howard E. Johnson departed this life on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the age of 86 years, 9 months, 23 days. He was born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas the son of the late Ira and Irene Sumpter Johnson. On September 4, 1949, he was united in marriage to Opal Gail McMullen. They were very happily married for 52 years before she preceded him in death on July 31, 2001.
Howard had lived in Hardin County for 43 years. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty-two years earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He retired from the Air Force and attended the local Vo-Tech school and started his own business Johnson Heating and Cooling. After 6 years in business he went to work at Shiloh Foods as Plant Maintenance Manager. After 16 years he decided it was time to really retire so he could fish the Tennessee River and cheer on his favorite basketball team, the Memphis Grizzlies.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Marie Brewington of Adamsville, Tennessee and Diana Irene Sumpter and husband, Thomas Gene of Dickson, Tennessee; grandchildren, Shannon Moore, Paul Brewington, and Samantha Jackson; great-grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Sabrina Brewington, and Dakota Jackson; and longtime friend and brother-in-law, Bill and wife, Dolores McMullen of Adamsville, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Teddy Harold Johnson and Carol Johnson; and sister, Bonnie Jean Johnson.
