Howard Jeter, age 77 of Bolivar, passed Thursday morning, July 21, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Robert Howard Jeter was born Wednesday, August 3, 1938, to the late Thomas Perry Jeter and Roxie Thomas Cochran Jeter, in Madison County, TN. On May 28, 1961, he married Georgia Sue Jeter and remained happily married for more than 55 years. He lived all of his life in Hardeman County.
He was a member of the Shandy Baptist Church, where he was saved in 1957, and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and superintendent. Mr. Jeter also helped build the new Shandy Baptist Church building.
Howard was an all around handy man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and the outdoors. He was a great entertainer and loved telling stories from his childhood. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and treasured his church family as well.
Howard is survived by his wife, Georgia Sue Jeter of Bolivar; two sons, Robert Jeter (Rose) and Charles Jeter (Cindy) of Bolivar; two step-sons, George Wayne Wiggins (Susan) of Bolivar, TN, and Levourn Wiggins (Karen) of Otto, NC; one step-daughter, Kathy Baker (Jackie) of Middleton, TN; two sisters, Ann Gates (Robert) of Middleton, and Jo Hickman of Bethel Springs; a brother, Perry Jeter Jr. (Ruby) of Jackson, TN; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Shandy Baptist Church.
