Houston Ford

November 29, 1948 — April 20, 2016

Houston Ford was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on November 29, 1948, the son of the late George Mondel and Barbara Ellise Highland Ford, who survives. In 1982, he was united in marriage to Elaine Faye Hayes, who survives.
Houston spent most of his childhood growing up in Hardin County before later moving to Elkhart, Indiana as a young man. At a very young age he learned from one of his uncles how to play a guitar, and his life was forever changed. He became blind as a youngster but it never stopped him from enjoying and perfecting his love of music. He loved picking and singing, and could play almost any instrument he touched. He even shared his love of music with his family, teaching nearly all of his brothers and his sister how to play guitar, and played numerous shows as a family band throughout the years. Many other descendants in his family also became musicians due to his love of music and his instruction. It was a talent he was very proud of.
The only thing he loved more than making music was his family. He was a kind, generous, patient man who loved his wife and kids, his grandchildren,his brothers, his parents, and his nieces and nephews, who will all miss him deeply.
In addition to his wife Elaine of 34 years, and his mother , he is survived by his children: Billy Lee Ford of Elkhart, Indiana; Brian James Garner of Elkhart, Indiana; Linda DeForrest of Elkhart, Indiana; Charles Hauer of North Carolina; and Carolyn Roland of Jacksonville, Florida;
Five brothers: Elvin, Ricky, Jimmy, George, and Randy Ford, all of Savannah, Tennessee;
One sister: Kay White of Savannah, Tennessee, and eleven grandchildren.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Damon Ford, and a brother-in-law, WC White.
