Lowell Blakney was born on November 20, 1938 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of the late Raymond and Eula Carson Blakney.
Lowell was a hard worker that took care of his family. On May 27, 1956, at the age of 17, he married his sweetheart, Mamie, and they are still married 68 years later. Mr. Blakney retired from Packaging Corporation of America where he worked as a maintenance foreman for paper machines. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Counce, Tennessee.
He loved camping, fishing, skiing, hunting, and riding motorcycles with his family and friends when he was younger. Later in life, he started riding bicycles. He rode many week long state rides and even completed 7 week rides across America three different times.
Lowell could fix anything and went out of his way to help others. He enjoyed figuring out puzzles like the Rubik's Cube and he was even able to write out instructions on how to solve it. Lowell taught us that you are only as good as your word and he lived out what he taught. He believed if you told someone you were going to do something, do it!
Lowell Blakney departed this life on September 2, 2024 in Counce, Tennessee at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie Blakney of Counce, Tennessee; daughters, Angie Blakney of Counce, Tennessee and Carol Blakney of Bartlett, Tennessee; grandchild, Kesha Shelby of Counce, Tennessee; and great grandchildren, Kylie Shelby, Jacey McMeans, Blakney Schwartz, Lucky Flanagan, and Ashby Flanagan.
In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his son, William Lowell Blakney; sister, Janice Swift; and brother, Ray Blakney.
