Herbert Wood, 72, of Bolivar, TN, died Friday April 03, 2015, at JMCGH.
Born August 29, 1942 in Shiloh, TN to Luke Wood and Christine Wood (Farris), he was retired from Merchants and Planters Bank in Bolivar. In the past he also practiced as a licensed funeral director with Lanier Funeral Home in Jackson, Memphis Funeral Home, and Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar. An avid historian, he was instrumental in the preservation of The Davis Bridge Battlefield in Hardeman County.
He graduated from Adamsville High School in 1960 and attended Freed-Hardeman University and was a graduate of the Mid-South School of Banking. He was a 30 year veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
He was a member of Bolivar Church of Christ. He served 15 years on the Bolivar/Hardeman County Library Board, also on the Hardeman County Fair Board, and as a veteran cast member of the annual Hee-Haw show for the Hardeman County Cancer Society.
He married Marilyn Ann Rinks on October 28, 1966 who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Greg Wood and wife Marsha of Jackson, a brother, Richard Wood of Walls, MS, and two grandchildren, Luke and Lily Wood of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
