HERBERT ‘DOC’ WHITMAN
Henderson: Herbert Hoover Whitman, age 80, died February 24, 2009 at Westwood Healthcare at Decaturville.
He was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Nathan Edd and Maudie Mosier Whitman. He attended Chester County Schools and farmed as a young man. He went to Memphis and did roofing work for Fry’s Roofing and also did carpenter and sheetrock work. He was married to Eva Woods in 1963 and they made their home in Henderson. Mrs. Whitman died in 1995. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by a son, Tommy Whitman of Henderson; a daughter, Linda Gail Whitman and a step daughter, Mary Davis of Henderson; four grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two brothers, Cleatus Whitman of Henderson and S. L. Whitman of Bolivar; three sisters, Gladys Fry, Ruby Horn and Betty Ricketts all of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Woods Whitman in 1995, two brothers, Floyd Whitman and J. D. Whitman and a sister, Myrtle Whitman.
