Henry C. Hopper, Sr., 79, of Pocahontas, died Wednesday morning, March 22, 2006 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The husband of Helen M. Gibson Hopper, who survives, he was a maintenance worker in air and chemical products for over 27 years. Mr. Hopper was born August 9, 1926 in Lauderdale County, son of the late Eddie E. Lee Hopper and Nellie Sue Woodruff Hopper. He spent his childhood in the Memphis area, lived for a time in Los Angeles, Cal. building homes with his father and lived in Memphis until 1983 when he made his home in Pocahontas. He served in the Army during WWII, loved to hunt and fish and was Baptist in belief.
Services were 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Middleton chapel with Bro. Joe Taylor officiating. Burial was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery near Chalybeate.
In addition to his wife, whom he married in January 1946, survivors include two daughters, Lena Sue Rapp and Rebecca Henrietta Chellette, both of Pocahontas; two sons, Henry C. “Hank†Hopper, Jr. of Middleton and James Wallace “Peanut†Hopper of Pocahontas; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Griggs and two brothers, Emmett and James Edward Hopper.
