Helen Newman, 75, of Hornsby, died Sunday evening, April 8, 2007 at her daughter's home in Collierville.
The widow of Willie E. “Nig†Newman, who died January 19, 1993 after 46 years of marriage, she worked as a dietician and in housekeeping at Western Mental Health Institute for over 10 years. Mrs. Newman was born December 23, 1931 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Tate and Opha Cox Sanders and lived in Shelby County until 1967 when she made her home in Hornsby. In 2005, she moved to Collierville to live with her daughter. She loved her home and family and enjoyed caring for others, sitting with the elderly for the last 10 years.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Norris Roberts of Collierville; two brothers, Joe Dean Sanders of Friendship and Alva Dee Sanders of Mason; two sisters, Blondell Benson of Covington and Imogene Benard of Jackson; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy and Bill Newman; four sisters, Maxine Mayfield, Rachel Tankersley, and Emmadine and Christine Sanders and five brothers, Bobby, Billy Ray, Wendle, Oneal and Royce Sanders.
