Harvey Smith "Junior" departed this life on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the age of 94 years and 18 days. He was born in Savannah, Tennessee on July 10, 1925, the son of the late William Harvey Smith, Sr. and Retta Lee Fowler Smith. On July 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Sue Wolfe, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2011.
Harvey served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and was on Normandy Beach during D-day. For 42 years he was employed with Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative as a meter reader and also worked in the engineering department. He was a member of the East End United Methodist Church for over 60 years and served as Sunday school superintendent and head usher for 40 years. He was also a member of the IBEW Union Local #558 in Sheffield, Alabama, VFW #4606 in Savannah, Tennessee, and as former Chairman of the Hardin County Election Commission. Harvey had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Libby Parrott and her husband Denny, and Jeannie Shelby, all of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kristen Tomlinson and her husband Justin, Brad Jones and his wife Tiffany, and Justin Shelby; great grandchildren, Tyler Tomlinson, Tate Tomlinson, and Trae Tomlinson; and a special friend to the family, Robert McCasland.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harvey was preceded in death by his brothers, James Robert "Bauldy" Smith and Gene Martin Smith; and sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Thelma Hale.
