Harry Joseph “Joe†Harris, 73, of Grand Junction, died unexpectedly Monday morning, October 10, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
The husband of Jewel Johnston Harris, who survives, he retired from Kenny Floor Covering after 47 years as a craftsman. Mr. Harris was born July 7, 1932 in Memphis, son of the late Joseph John Harris, Jr. and Lucy Russell Sanders Harris. He graduated from Bolivar Central High School in 1952 and lived in Memphis from 1958-73 before returning to Hardeman County. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-56, receiving the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals, and was a long-time member of the Grand Junction United Methodist Church.
Services were 11 AM Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Richard Hackleman officiating. Burial was in Grand Junction City Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, whom he married January 10, 1958, survivors include two sons, Kim Harris of Mena, Ark. and Tim Harris of Grand Junction; one daughter, Tammy Harris Jones of Memphis; three grandchildren, Jonathan Harris, Bridget Harris, John Lewis “Trey†Jones, III; brother, John R. Harris, Sr. and cousin, Edwin Harris, both of Hickory Valley.
