HARRIETTE ASHLEY CHURCHWELL
was born in Valdosta, Georgia on May 25, 1928 the daughter of the late Thomas Converse and Mary Margaret Jakes Ashley.
On June 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to Alfred Grigg Churchwell, who preceded his wife in death on May 17, 1997.
Mrs. Churchwell grew up in Valdosta, Georgia then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, Savannah, Tennessee and later to Memphis, Tennessee. As a student of University of Georgia she earned a teaching degree and later taught at Agnes Scott College. During her time at Agnes Scott College, she coached tennis, basketball, synchronized swimming and cheerleading. While living in Savannah, Tennessee, Mrs. Churchwell was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a worship leader, member of Junior Auxiliary, and the Savannah Bridge Club. She attended Farmington Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Tennessee. Mrs. Churchwell loved to play and watch sports and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves. She loved watching her four girls and later her seven grandchildren in all of their athletic and school activities. Mrs. Churchwell also loved to sing.
She departed this life on October 3, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 8 days.
Mrs. Churchwell is survived by her four daughters, Mary Ashley Churchwell of Eads, Tennessee, Luella Grigg Churchwell Schneider and her husband, Mike of Collierville, Tennessee, Caroline Harriette Churchwell of Collierville, Tennessee, and Molly Churchwell Sweet and her husband, Doug of Collierville, Tennessee.
