Harold Smith

Henderson: James Harold Smith, age 87, died October 24, 2008 at his home.He was born on March 2, 1921 in Jacks Creek, TN the son of the late Dr. Lloyd Gilbert Smith and Allie Meda Terry Smith. He graduated high school in Gleason, TN in 1939, attended Bethel College in McKenzie, TN and also Memphis State University.He entered the U.S. Army in June 1942 and was sent to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia for thirteen weeks basic training. After basic training he was sent to the Asiatic Pacific War Zone and was assigned to the Air Corps Medics, serving 39 months in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands and was honorably discharged in September 1945.Mr. Smith was a Life Insurance Salesman for twenty five years, managed Wood and Miller Department store for two years, salesman at Holland’s Department Store in Jackson for three years.He was married to Mildred Bingham in 1953. She died in 1976. He was married to Frances Hodges on July 9, 1982.Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church for over fifty years. He had been a Deacon since 1973.He is survived by his wife, Frances Hodges Smith of Henderson, a step-daughter, Annette Fitzgerald and husband Dennis of Beech Bluff, step-son, Danny Hodges and wife Gail of Henderson; one granddaughter, April Downing and husband Wade of Jackson; grandsons, Anthony (Bud) Reddin, Jr. of Henderson, Brent Hodges and wife Lindsay of Henderson and Phillip Hodges and wife Jennifer of Bells, TN; great grandsons, Nathean Burress and Benjamin Hodges and a great granddaughter, Brylee Downing.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyman Terry Smith.
