Grady (G.C.) Qualls, Jr.



was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on September 17, 1924 the son of the late Grady Calvin and Ester Wilson Qualls.



On December 23, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dorothy F. Thorne, who survives.



G.C. Qualls was a native of Hardin County. As a young boy, he spent many days at his Father's and Uncle's garage, where he loved to tinker with cars, and over time, became a master mechanic. After high school, G.C. joined the Army and was stationed in Denver, Colorado. When his military commitment ended, G.C. worked for Fisher Aircraft in Memphis, Tennessee and later decided to return to Savannah and assist his father in his oil jobber business.



G.C. Served on the Hardin County Election Commission for 31 years and was an active member of the Republican Party.



He loved to travel with Dorothy and their family in his motor home after retirement.



G.C. loved his family and always stood ready to help others in need. He was a deep thinker and had a great sense of humor.



G.C. Qualls departed this life on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, 5 days.



In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Newman of Savannah, Tennessee; 2 sons, Carey L. Qualls of Sewanee, Georgia and David Qualls of Collierville, Tennessee; 3 grandchildren, Leah Whittingham, Cassie Smith, and Grant Qualls; 4 great-grandchildren, Will Browder, Brandon Browder, Conner Whittingham, and Emma Whittingham; a sister, Robbie Glover of Savannah, Tennessee; a brother, Ray Qualls of Selmer, Tennessee.
