Grady Floyd Coln

Grady Floyd Coln, a beloved member of the Acton community, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Michie on December 25, 2023. He was known for hard work and dedication throughout his life. Grady wore many hats and excelled in various professions, including being a farmer, a licensed electrician, plumber, and working as a counter salesperson for Conley Supply in Corinth, MS for 30 years. Additionally, he taught school in Acton for one year after graduating from high school.

Born on April 8, 1926, in McNairy County, TN, Grady was the son of William Robert and Nora Bell Utley Coln. From an early age, it was evident that Grady had a passion for learning and fixing things. He graduated from Michie High School where he was a standout basketball player. In June of 1946, Grady proudly joined the United States Army to serve his country. His service lasted until May of 1947. During his time in the military, Grady utilized his skills as a radio operator stationed in the Philippines. He played a crucial role in controlling harbor traffic by sending and receiving messages while also repairing radio receivers and transmitters. His dedication and commitment earned him the rank of Corporal. He was recommended by his commanding officer for a career in the military but chose instead to return home and help his father on the family farm.

Grady was a man who loved to work. His ability to fix anything was admired by all who knew him. Grady never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His unwavering determination to solve any problem made him the go-to person in his church and community. While Grady's career achievements were significant, one of his greatest joys in life came from spending time with his family. He cherished every moment shared with them and created memories that will forever be treasured. His love and devotion to his family were unparalleled. Grady was a faithful member of the Acton church of Christ, where he served as deacon over building and grounds for many years.  He loved the Lord and his church family with all his heart.

Grady is survived by his loving daughter and caregiver Judy Tucker of Michie, TN, and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. On September 12, 2023, he was predeceased by his devoted spouse of 75 years, Jeanette Copeland Coln, whom he married on October 16, 1947.  His beloved son David Coln passed on August 2, 2006. Grady was also preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters, and six nephews.

Today we say farewell to a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Grady Floyd Coln's values of hard work, resilience, and love will continue to inspire generations to come. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will forever reside within those who remain to carry on his legacy. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
