On Saturday, November 10, 2007 at her home Mrs. Horton went to be with her Lord and Savior. The youngest of 10, Goldie was born November 2, 1910 to Joe Edd and Mary Ann and raised up around the Factory Creek area. At an early age while visiting with friends and attending a church gathering she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and wanted to be baptized. People there were asking who is that little girl. Later when washing clothes at a creek on Double Branches she saw her future husband, Eldred Horton who worked as a logger. After a courting period, they married in 1929 on Shawnettee. With more and more people starting to gather for revival services and several of the men in the community getting saved, Eldred accepted Jesus in his life also. They and others in the community organized, funded and built the original Millrock Church where Eldred and Goldie would serve and worship Jesus the rest of their life. Eldred was a Deacon and Goldie served as church secretary for many years. With Eldred making their living with his own sawmill on Shawnettee and Goldie as a loving housewife they had 3 children, Fayetta, Joe, and Samuel. She dearly loved going to church. Her other interests included gardening, sewing, crocheting, and reading her Bible. She handmade over 40 baby afgans and too many to count crocheted dishtowels for family and friends. She always wanted to give people something. She had so many life stories that she loved to share when anyone visited even up to the last days before her passing. All children were so dear to her and she wanted them all to learn about Jesus and His good news. Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren and many others affectionately called her Mommow. Her brothers and sisters who have already passed, nieces and nephews who lived away from this area she loved dearly and was always anxious for visits from them. To welcome her home who passed away in 1975, her dear husband, Eldred. She is survived by her children, Fayetta Caperton, Joe Horton and wife Nellie, Samuel Horton and wife Becky. Grandchildren Donna Dixon, Jimmy Caperton, Vickie Tatum, Cindy Roberson, Darlene Hanback, Stanley Horton, Amye Harris, Jeff Horton, Heather Hamner, Tonya Prater, and Brent Smith; 21 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, a special friend Angie, and a host of friends. Everyone who knew her was blessed.
