Gloria Dorothy Ray

Gloria Dorothy Brown Ray was born June 17, 1927 in Berwick, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Harris Brown and Flora Cragel Brown Sampsell. Mrs. Ray, a resident of Savannah Healthcare, formerly of Clifton departed this life Friday, April 24, 2009 at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 10 Months, 7 Days. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband Ben Hooper Ray; a son, David Bradley Ray and an infant daughter; Karen Yvonne Ray; and her stepfather, Joseph Sampsel.



On August 11, 1946 she was married to Ben Hooper Ray. Many of those years she was a militay wife as he served in the U.S. Navy over 21 years. She loved to cook and entertain guests in her home and loved her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ray was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Goshen Primitive Baptist Church in Linden, Tennessee.



She is survived by a daughter, Dollie (Ray) Buczynski of Toms River, NJ, a son, Ben Harris Ray and wife Susan of Savannah, TN; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Ray of Bath Springs, TN;



nine grandchildren, Frankie Buczynski, Anthony Buczynski, Michael Buczynski, Bradley Ray, Colton Ray, Adam Ray, Adrea Fowler, Myshelle Ray, and Shauna Milam; 8 great-grandchildren;



a sister, Shirley (Brown) Trough of Georgia



Services will be Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro with Jerry McMinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Prater's Chapel Cemetery at Clifton with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in charge of arrangements.
