Glenda Marlow Mitchell

June 3, 1937 — June 30, 2018

Glenda Marlow Mitchell was born June 3, 1937 in Alva, MS the daughter of the late William Brandon (Bill) and Lillie Wauwece (Weecie) Neal Marlow.

She was united in marriage to Barclay (Bart) Mitchell on April 17, 1976.

Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Alva High School in 1955. She grew up working for her family's sawmill business and farming. As a result, even in her later years she could outwork many men. Gardening and tending flowers were two of her favorite hobbies, but raking leaves was her therapy-she was even known to rake in the woods.

As an adult Mrs. Mitchell worked in the garment manufacturing industry, becoming a production manager before retiring. She worked for McGregor in Winona, MS and Rienzi Manufacturing in Rienzi for about 15 years. In 1996, she and her husband Bart moved to Costa Rica where she was employed by Prentiss Manufacturing. After living and working there for two years they returned to the States. She and Bart loved to travel, both within the United States and abroad. Mrs. Mitchell loved to be outside, and preferred to be barefoot as much as possible. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Selmer.

Mrs. Mitchell departed this life on June 30, 2018 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 27 Days. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Barclay (Bart) Mitchell of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Julia Thomas and husband Lynn of Guys, TN; a step-daughter, Carol Marlow and husband Gayle of Duck Hill, MS; two step-sons, John R. Mitchell and wife Sommer of Pulaski, TN and Randy B. Mitchell and wife Sheryl of Petal, MS; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Billie Garner and husband Bill of Ocean Springs, MS, Peggy Brister and husband Roger of Stewart, MS, Carolyn Hodges and husband Jack of Greenwood, MS, and Sheila Newsom and husband Mike of Duck Hill, MS; two brothers, Johnny Marlow and wife Christie of Carrollton, MS and Gayle Marlow and wife Carol of Duck Hill, MS; and many extended family and friends.
