Mrs. Bellar, age 74, of Whiteville, departed this life on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
The daughter of the late William D. and Frances Collins, she was born in Memphis on July 14, 1948, and lived there until 1985. It was then she married Mr. James Bellar, who survives, on Christmas Eve, 1985. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Watson (2017); and a brother, Bob Collins.
Mrs. Bellar was a retired operator for the City of Whiteville's wastewater system where she worked for 27 years. A pioneer for women in wastewater management, she was recognized by the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts as their operator of the year. Much of her working life was also spent as a laboratory technician for Archer-Daniels-Midland, the City of Memphis and Barrow-Agee.
She was a faithful and active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang nearly every Sunday. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, card playing and computers.
In addition to her husband of over 37 years, she leaves her son, David Jonas of Memphis; her granddaughter, Alexis Watson of Arkansas; and a brother, Doyle Collins of San Antonio, TX.
