Gladys Melson Brown departed this life on December 11, 2014 at the age of 94 years, 9 months, and 6 days. She was born on March 5, 1920 in Wayne County, Tennessee, the daughter to the late William and Lillie Brewer Melson. She was united in marriage to Benton Brown on November 30, 1946. Her husband preceded her in death on June 4, 2006.
Gladys was employed at Garment Manufacturing as a machine operator. She was also a pastor's wife and served many congregations of the Freewill Baptist faith in Middle and West Tennessee and in Northern Alabama.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two children, Iva Brown Farris and her husband. Jack, of Savannah, Tennessee and Robert Brown and his wife, Linda, of Harvard, Illinois; three siblings, Herbert Melson of Mishawaka, Indiana, Frank Melson of Harvard, Illinois, and Elizabeth Harville of Savannah, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Michael Brown Farris, Christi Brown, and Timothy Robert Brown and his wife, Shelley; and five great-grandchildren, Ian, Trent, Trinity, Savannah, and Logan.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys is preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Charlie, Robert, Austin, Virgil, Billy, and Monroe Melson; and four sisters, Christine Melson, Mary Melson, Carrie Welch, and Sarah Franks.
