Girneal Isom

April 19, 1913 — December 14, 2012

Mrs. Isom, the widow of Leon L. Isom, Sr., died Friday evening at her home in Pocahontas.



A native of Fields, TN, she was the daughter of the late Bascom and Ella Marlar Mills. She lived most of her life in Pocahontas after her marriage to Mr. Isom on January 26, 1930. Mr. Isom passed from this life on August 25, 2000 after 70 years of marriage.



Mrs. Isom was a long-time member of the Pocahontas Church of Christ where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She also served the Church at Essary Springs in the same capacity. She worked as homemaker where she loved to cook, having fed many preachers who came to serve the Church at Pocahontas. She enjoyed flowers, collecting antiques, including glassware and jewelry.



She leaves 7 daughters, Mary Smith and husband, Billy, of Pocahontas; Lillie Ann Pierce and husband, Joel, of Scotts Hill; Helen Carlile and husband, Rex, of Granger, IN; Martha Frances Yopp and husband, Ruble, of Middleton; Judy Hughes and husband, Larry, of Selmer; Patricia Maxwell and husband, Jim, of Middleton; and Wanda Pulse and husband, David, of Middleton; 2 sons, Leon L. Isom, Jr. and wife, Bernice, of Middleton; and Billy B. Isom and wife, Thelma, of Wilkesboro, NC; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Tonya Maxwell Hart and Mary Girneal Yopp; and one grandson, John Yopp.
