Gertrude Chandler Porter

Gertrude Chandler Porter, 80, of Bolivar, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Forest Cove Manor in Jackson.



The widow of Cecil Porter, who died July 2, 1982, she was head of housekeeping for Brint Nursing Home for over 20 years. Mrs. Porter was born September 7, 1924 in Bolivar, daughter of the late William Elmer Chandler and Dora Elizabeth Ervin Chandler and lived in Hardeman County all of her life. She worked at Western Mental Health Institute prior to her marriage, more recently enjoyed participating at the Senior Citizens Center in Bolivar and was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church while also attending Trinity Baptist Church.



Services were 12 PM Friday, August 19, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Charles Jeter officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery near Toone.



Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Betsy Porter of Jackson; one sister Ruth Hickman and four grandchildren.
