Mrs. Georgia E. Smith departed this life Sunday morning, August 18, 2013 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The widow of Johnnie W. Smith, who died on October 18, 1983, she worked as a psychiatric technician at Western Mental Health Institute for 38 years. She was born in Hornsby, Tennessee, daughter of the late Ernest Scott Howell and Odie Lee Coburn Howell and lived in Hardeman County most of her life. When she was 3, her mother died and her father remarried Minnie Idell Sisco Howell, who lovingly raised her and her sister and brother. She loved to crochet and quilt and enjoyed canning. Mrs. Smith was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Kelley of Whiteville; four sisters, Louise Doyle of Bolivar; Sue McKelvey of Memphis and Dean Pipkin of Memphis, and Margarette Brumbelow of Middleton; a brother, Bill Howell of Middleton; four grandchildren, Rita Hooper, Scott Kelley, Lorrie Stamey and Mindy Scott and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, whom she married on February 14, 1958 and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Larry Ray and a brother, Ernest Howell. The family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
