George David Mathis

Mr. Mathis departed this life Monday, June 3, 2013 at his home in Bolivar.



The husband of Mary Ruth Young Mathis, who survives, he worked as a carpenter. He was born July 10, 1944, in Bolivar to the late Buddy B.N. Mathis and Lula Pearl Mathis and lived in Illinois for 21 years prior to moving back here in 1991. Among his hobbies were hunting and fishing.



In addition to his wife, whom he married on February 24, 1969, survivors include two daughters, Teresa Toth of Bolivar and Martha Mathis of Walnut, MS; three sons, Tracy Mathis of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, James Mathis of Middleton and RIcky Young of Toone; a sister, Mary Ruby Cox of Walnut, MS; three brothers, Jimmy Mathis of Hornsby, Wayne Mathis of Middleton and Joseph Mathis of Stantonville; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Ray Mathis and a sister, Martha Elizabeth Bain.
