George S. Barnes

George S. Barnes of Selmer was born on Sunday, January 13, 1929, to the late Edgar and Mary M. Willis Barnes. He married Fay Riley on June 22, 1954. Mr. Barnes was a retired franchisee with Jackson Cookie Company, then owned and operated R and B Enterprises concessions. He was a former bus driver for the City of Memphis. He last worked part time at Aunt Bee's Restaurant in Selmer.Mr. Barnes died on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 79 Years, 4 Months, and 29 Days.Survivors are his wife of nearly 54 years, Fay Barnes; son, Mike Barnes of Selmer; two granddaughters, Britney Ann Crum and Amanda Fay Barnes; great-grandson, Weston Blake Lane Strickland; sister, Laura Pearl Wilson of Ramer, Tennessee; two brothers, Hubert Barnes of Eastview, Tennessee, James Warren Barnes of Selmer.Also survived by three half-sisters, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.Other than his parents, Mr. Barnes was also preceded in death by a son George Melvin Barnes and a brother Wilburn Barnes.
