Mr. Parker departed this life Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2013 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The husband of Dottie Parker, who survives, he retired after 29 years of teaching and coaching, having taught/coached at Toone Elementary School and Bolivar Middle School. He was born in Hardeman County, son of the late Gentry Samuel Parker, Sr. and Myrtle Wiles Parker and lived all of his life here. He graduated the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1972 and Whiteville High School in 1968. Mr. Parker was a member of Whiteville Baptist Church and had attended Cloverport Baptist Church for the last several years.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on February 16, 1973, survivors include two daughters, Christie Parker of Toone and Candy Parker Sowder (Jamie) of Toone; three grandchildren, Parker, Caleb and Jake Sowder; three sisters, Faye Bingham (John) of Foley, AL, Gail Pinner (Bob) of Whiteville and Pam Parker of Arlington; and his mother in law, Pansy Thornton of Cloverport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father in law, Earnest Troy Thornton. The family requests memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
