Genell Freeman

Vonnie Genell Freeman was born on September 10, 1929, to Lee and Lillie McKenzie Gray. She was united in marriage to Roy Freeman on December 30, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1975.

Genell graduated from Selmer High School in 1947. She worked at Brown Shoe and at approximately 41 years of age, she decided to attend LPN school. After graduation, she worked at McNairy General Hospital for 25 years. After retirement, she worked in the McNairy County Trustee's Office and with the McNairy County Developmental Center. She had also worked from time to time at the Flower Box. She was "Minnie Pearl" for many years in the local "Hee Haw" cast.

Genell was a member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed attending church for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Presley and husband Joe, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Genell was preceded in death by six sisters: Addillia Ashe, Modena Gray, Annie Rea Gray, Winnie Mae Sweat, Verlene Moss, and Demovia Wolfe, and one brother, L.A. Gray.
