He is survived by his wife Judy Beene Clayton; two sons Shane Clayton and Brandon Clayton and wife Vicki all of Henderson; and six grandchildren; two brothers John David Clayton of Bethel Springs and Billy Clayton of Finger and one sister Ann Anderson of Selmer. He was born and reared in McNairy County, near Finger, the son of the late Albert Harrison and Mae Hassie Mitchell Clayton. He attended schools in McNairy County and entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and served overseas in Germany and returned in 1956. He was married to Judy Beene of Finger and they lived for 32 years in McNairy County. Mr. Clayton worked all his career at Quality Mfg. Company and retired in 1997, as shipping supervisor. They made their home in Henderson since 1995. Mr. Clayton loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a member of the Old Friendship Baptist Church.
Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by a son Craig Clayton in 1992 and two brothers Hoyt Clayton and Murry Clayton and three sisters Marie Collie, Willie Albert Garner and Jewel Lynch.
