Franklin (W. F.) Mitchell was born June 20, 1921 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late Farmer Franklin and Buena Fish Mitchell.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Crangle on November 27, 1943. Mrs. Mitchell preceded him in death on May 1, 2015, following 71 years of marriage.
Mr. Mitchell worked for R. B. Gooch in Selmer selling theater tickets. He was also employed by DeKalb Seed Company in sales, and by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture as a surveyor. Mr. Mitchell farmed and operated his own seed Company as well. He enjoyed playing dominoes, and was known as the "domino king" of Adamsville. Mr. Mitchell was a faithful member of the Bethel Springs First Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a Deacon. He loved history, conducting intensive research on the history of McNairy County as well as his family genealogy. He was also a well known area author, having compiled several books on different subjects.
Mr. Mitchell departed this life on March 5, 2016 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 94 Years, 8 Months, 14 Days. He is survived by two daughters, Bobbye Wagoner and husband Billy of Stantonville, TN and Lisa (Mitchell) Curtis and husband Mike of Orlando, FL; three sons: Robert F. Mitchell and wife Joyce of Cedar Hill, TN, William Buford Mitchell and wife Beverly of Horn Lake, MS, and John David Mitchell and wife Debbie of Bethel Springs, TN; six grandchildren: Angela Flatt and husband Joe, Christina Crewse, Jason Mitchell and wife Jennifer, Bobby Mitchell, Laura Bergeron, and Jennifer Weatherford; 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jon Clay Wagoner; a sister, Nora Mae Agnew; and a brother, Bruce Mitchell.
