Frank Shelton of Lexington, TN died peacefully on Dec. 30, 2010 at the Henderson County Community Hospital at the age of 86.
Throughout his life Mr. Shelton was animated, sincere, friendly and never missed an opportunity to talk about automobiles, politics and World War II. Most beloved to him was his family for which he was profoundly grateful and adoring. There was no personal experience or accomplishment in his life that made him prouder than his U.S. Army military service during WWII when he participated in day two of the Normandy Invasion and then continued wartime service in Northern France and central Europe as a telephone operator in the Signal Corps. After the war, Mr. Shelton returned to his hometown of Adamsville, TN where he began work in 1947 for Brown Shoe Company in nearby Selmer and Savannah. He continued work with the company in Lexington, TN as a foreman and employee supervisor until 1974. For some years following, he was employed by the State of Tennessee Department of Child Labor where he took a personal interest in preventing unfair and abusive treatment of young workers.
From 1947 until his death Mr. Shelton was married to Robbie JoAnn Sibley of Crump, TN with whom he had two daughters. He will be sorely missed by all who dearly loved him.
Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, JoAnn ; his daughters, Kathy Mealer (Rick) of Jackson, TN and Donna McCoy (Glenn) of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Jonathan Mealer (Jennifer) of Medina, TN and Elliot McCoy of Loiusville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Frank Shelton; sister, Virginia Black who passed away recently on November 7, 2010.
