Frances Ann Cornelius Johnson, age 93 of Manchester, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James A. Johnson in 2011; her parents, Loyd Taylor Cornelius, Sr. and Ruth Etheridge Cornelius; and two brothers Loyd Taylor Cornelius, Jr. and W. J. “Red” Cornelius of Middleton.
Survivors are a son, Dr. Joseph E. Johnson of Bowling Green, KY; one daughter, Anne Fulks and husband, Paul, of Manchester; six grandchildren, James Johnson of Bowling Green, KY, Hannah J. Hendon and husband Billy of Murray, KY, Heather Uhls and husband Clay of Franklin, KY, Amy Ogles and husband Jason of Murfreesboro, TN, Cecilia Jones and husband Ben of Soddy Daisy, TN, and Elizabeth Borthick and husband Will of Manchester; four great-grandchildren, Asher Jones and Madison “Maddie” Jones of Soddy Daisy, and Hobson Borthick and Georgia Ann Borthick of Manchester, TN; a sister-in-law Rachel Hodge of Rossville, TN; a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Cornelius of Middleton; several nieces and nephews; and host of friends.
She was a graduate of Middleton High School Class of 1940. She graduated from Freed-Hardeman College and earned her B.S in Education from Memphis State University. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, former member of Freed-Hardeman Associates, and former Chairman of Hardeman County March of Dimes. She retired from teaching in 1985, having taught in Hardeman County schools for 35 years, mostly at Middleton Elementary School. She was a member of Middleton Church of Christ where she taught youth classes and other activities. She took pride in hosting preachers of the Gospel in her home. Most of her life was spent in Hardeman County, moving to Roswell New Mexico for a short time. Returning in 1988, she and her husband moved to Manchester where she attended New Union Church of Christ. In 2009 she and her husband made their home in McArthur Manor Assisted Living.
