Fay Marie O’Neal “Mama Fayâ€
Enville: Fay Marie Sewell O’Neal, age 85, died January 25, 2009 at the home of her son, Joe David O’Neal in Henderson, TN.
She was born and reared in the Leapwood area in McNairy County, the daughter of the late Joe Basinger and Minnie Thelma Hair Sewell. She graduated from Adamsville High School in 1941 and graduated Freed-Hardeman College in 1943, earning a teaching certificate. She taught at the one room school house at Beauty Hill. She was married to Max Sewell O’Neal in 1946 and they made their home in Enville where Mr. O’Neal farmed and was in the livestock trade business. In 1956 she went to work for Farmers and
Merchant Bank in Adamsville and worked for eighteen years as head cashier. She was a member of the Enville Church of Christ and loved sewing, gardening and raising flowers. She had been ill since suffering a fall in July of 2007.
Mrs. O’Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Max O’Neal in 1983; her father and mother, Joe and Minnie Sewell of Leapwood; two brothers, Harold D. Sewell of Selmer and Bobby Sewell of Murfreesboro; one sister, Mary Joe Bingham of Austin, TX and an infant that died at birth.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry O’Neal of Enville and Joe David O’Neal and wife Patty Mitchell O’Neal of Henderson; six grandchildren, Tracey O’Neal Snow (Michael) of Dallas, TX, Sean David O’Neal (Jennifer) of Modesto, CA, Justin O’Neal, Hayley O’Neal and Ian O’Neal all of Henderson and Seth O’Neal (Sunni) of Scotts Hill and three great grandchildren, Katherine Ella Snow, Lillian Amelia Snow and Ava Marie O’Neal.
Services will be held at the Enville Church of Christ in Enville, TN on Saturday afternoon at one o’clock p.m. with Brother J. Walker Whittle, officiating, Mrs. O’Neal’s body will be at Shackelford Funeral Home, Casey Chapel in Henderson on Friday, January 30 and will be moved to the Enville church at ten o’clock a.m. on Saturday, January 31. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Enville.
