Mrs. Patterson, daughter of Thomas Moses and Margaret Jane Smith was born on November 7, 1911 in McNairy County. She attended school in McNairy County. She married Vaudie Patterson in 1927 and they made their home in McNairy and Chester County. They operated a grocery store on Front Street in Henderson in the 1940’s. Mrs. Patterson also worked at Salant & Salant. After her husband’s death in 1959, Mrs. Patterson established, owned and operated Patterson’s Cloth Shop for twenty years. She was nutrition site supervisor for the Chester County Senior Center for nine years.
Mrs. Patterson was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed the senior activities, Betty Roaten WMU Organization and her Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Patterson was active in the Senior Citizens Center. She participated in the senior games and enjoyed dominoes and traveling with her senior friends. She was named Senior Miss Chester County at the annual Bar-Be-Que Festival.
Mrs. Patterson considered her most worthy job was taking care of her children, which she did with amazing love, dedication and patience.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by a son and a daughter, Thomas Gwendell Patterson and Linda Patterson both of Henderson; a sister Dona Webster also of Henderson; and many nieces and nephews, which she considered special, Margaret Stinnett, Lucy Boles, Ann Keistler, Bill Webster and Charles Smith assisted with her care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaudie Patterson; a son James Francis Patterson; brothers Kent Smith, Buck Smith, and two infant brothers; sisters Marena Davis, Leeora Loftin and Alana Smith.
