Everett Jackson Bissey

August 20, 1917 — February 25, 2012

Everett Jackson (Jack) Bissey Jack passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at his home at the age of 94.



Jack (Everett Jackson) Bissey of Florence, AL was born August 20, 1917 in Wayne Co., IL, the son of the late Henry R. and Lula Versa Zimmerman Bissey. He was united in marriage to Jewel Dodd on February 15, 1947.



Since he grew up working on his granddad's farm as a young man in Clay County, IL, he developed a true passion for farming which continued throughout his life. He enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1945 in World War II in both North Africa and Italy.



After his return from the war, Jack worked for the Uniroyal Tire Company in Detroit, MI where he lived until his retirement. He resided in Alabama since his retirement in 1976. He and Jewel have been members of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church for all those years. Jack was active in the American Legion, serving as a Commander, the VFW, President of Civitan and the Masonic Lodge. His love of farming continued until age 72 when the sport of golf became his new passion and he enjoyed that wonderful sport with family and friends well into his 80's.



He is survived by his wife, Jewel Dodd Bissey of Florence, AL, sons, Jerry Bissey and wife, Regina, of Dallas, TX, Jack Bissey and wife, Jean Margaret, of Orange, TX; two granddaughters, Tiffany Bissey and Kelley Bissey; two step-grandchildren, Casey Gary and Jessica Escobar; and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Sanders of Quincy, IL, Edith Reinerd of Mexico, MO, Audrey Weiler of Flora, IL, and Lola James of Tewksbury, MA.



In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Bissey, George Bissey, Dale Bissey, sisters, Ruth McHenry, Melba Pittman, and Eula Skelton.
