Mrs. Smith was born and reared in the Refuge Community of McNairy County the daughter of the late William and Roxie James Wilson. She attended schools in McNairy County and was married to Buford Smith of the Refuge Community. They made their home in that same community where Mr. Smith farmed and worked at the Henderson Compress. Mr. Smith died in 1981. Mrs. Smith had made her home in Henderson since 1986.
She was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ.
She is survived by four daughter; Wanda Williams and husband Robert of Bethel Springs, Linda Matthews and husband Joe of Henderson, Sandra Farley and husband Butch of Henderson and Sherry Bryant and husband William of Red Bank, MS and three sons; James Smith and wife Brenda of Bethel Springs, Jacob Smith and wife Rhonda of Bethel Springs, and Randy Smith and wife Elaine of Collierville. She was preceded in death by three children; Hubert Smith, Marie Hendrix, and Carolyn Smith.
She also is survived by four brothers; W. E. Wilson of Adamsville, Chester Wilson of Nashville, James Wilson of Ramer, and W. J. Wilson of Jackson, and two sisters; Amy Tidwell of Bethel Springs and Flora Wilson of Dyersburg.
Mrs. Smith has 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
