She was born and reared in McNairy County, the daughter of Lawrence Obra and Joyce Mitchell Sims. She graduated from McNairy County High School in 1973. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bethel College and also her Teaching Certificate. She was married to Jerry Johnson in 1977 and they made their home in Chester County. She taught school in Chester County for the past 27 years and most of her career at Chester County High School, teaching Biology and Autonomy. She had been a Sponsor for the Student Council for many years. She was a member of the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Johnson of Henderson; two sons, Justin Johnson and his wife Sarah and Jeremy Johnson all of Henderson; a daughter, Karen Johnson of Henderson; her father and mother, Lawrence and Joyce Mitchell Sims of Selmer; and two brothers, Edward Sims of Kenton and Darryl Sims of Como, TN.
