Ethel Ruth Jackson Martin, age 79 passed away quietly and peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 22, 2007. Ruth was a hometown girl from Collinwood, TN. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil “Bud†Martin of 45 years. Ruth and Bud enjoyed a full filled life living in various states and foreign countries from Bud’s many deployments while serving in the U.S. Navy. She was living with her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Pat Richardson for the past 11 years in sunny Tucson, Arizona. Ruth loved to garden and had a full fledged “green thumb†and was considered to be “the best southern cook in the worldâ€, according to her family. She was a very special, beautiful person who gracefully touched all who knew her. This world was a kinder place with her presence and she will be missed each and every day. Ruth leaves behind her daughters, Margie and son-in-law, Tim Whalen of Powhatan, Va., Nancy and son-in-law, Pat Richardson of Tucson, Az., a grand-daughter Tammie Lee and husband Marty and great-grandson Nathan White of Chesapeake, Va., grand-daughter Shawna and great-grandson Nathaniel Whalen of Hellertown, Pa. and many loving family members,, nieces and nephews from the Tennessee and Alabama areas.
Funeral arrangements by Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County, 993 Highway 13 South, Collinwood, TN, 38450, where the family will receive guests on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday, Jan 26, 2007 from 1:00 pm to service time with service at 3:00 PM on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007 at the funeral home chapel.
