Ethel Garner Hurst was born February 5, 1914 in Bethel Springs, TN the daughter of the late Arlis and Lettie Rankin Garner. She was united in marriage to Elmer Hurst on September 9, 1930. Mr. Hurst preceded her in death on April 17, 1974.
Mrs. Hurst was a homemaker. For years she worked as a volunteer assisting with the special education students in McNairy County they each held a special place in her heart. Mrs. Hurst was a supporter of the Freedom River TV Station; she would donate money and quilts to raise funds. Some of her favorite pastimes were sewing, quilting, going to yard sales, playing the piano, listening to gospel music, talking about all she had witnessed in her lifetime, and was quick to share her faith about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen.
Mrs. Hurst was an active lady, she was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Selmer TN, the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society, and in her later years she enjoyed going to the Selmer Senior Citizens Center.
Mrs. Hurst departed this life on May 23, 2015 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 101 Years, 3 Months, 18 Days.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred (Nancy) Hurst Henson Hernando MS; a son, Terry Ray Hurst and wife Marie of Selmer, TN; six grandchildren, Gary Joe Wilson, Jeff Wilson and wife Debbie of Bethel Springs, TN, Jeannie Boyd of Southaven, MS, Scott Hurst of Selmer, TN, Eric Hurst and wife Stephanie of Michie, TN, Nina King and husband Josh of Bethel Springs, TN; ten great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hurst was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Taylor; two sons, Everett Hurst, Gail Hurst; three grandchildren, Bill Henson, Janet Wilson, Tim Wilson; four brothers, Haven Garner, Will Garner, Warren Garner, and Waldo Garner.
