Ernest D. "Ernie" Savoie, Jr.

Ernest Donison Savoie Jr. (Ernie) of Oakland, TN was born on Dec. 13,1950 in Memphis, TN. He went to be with our lord on Sunday March 2, 2025, at the age of 74 after battling cancer for almost a year. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. He was proceeded in death by his mother Grace Jeanette Pollan Savoie, father Ernest Donison Savoie Sr. and nephew John Robert Bailey. He is survived by his sister Patricia Savoie Streeter of Counce, TN and his niece Sara J. Myers of Chesapeake, VA.

Ernie was currently employed by Amazon and had been working for them for these past few years. He had many achievements in his life. He graduated from Trezevant High School class of 1968, Memphis, TN. He enlisted into the USMC right out of high school, he was sent to Parris Island, SC for his boot camp training. From there he was stationed at the US Marine Air Station in El Toro, CA. He became a Data Analyst Technician with the Marine Air Wing and served with a dedicated unit which provided security to the President of the United States. He was awarded by the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine of the month in May 1971. He earned the rank of Sergeant before departing the Marine Corps in 1972. After leaving the Corp he returned to his home town, Memphis, TN. He enrolled at Memphis State University and was a member of the PI KAPPA PHI Fraternity the Gamma Delta Chapter. In 1976 he began his banking career with First Tennessee Bank, he retired in 1994 as Vice President of Check Processing Operations. That same year he became sole owner of his family’s business Savoie’s Carpet Binding Services. Years later he sold the company and pursued a new line of work as a Sr Certified Pharmacy Technician for Walgreens. Ernie was working for Walgreens during COVID 19. These were trying times for everyone. In 2022 he wanted to start working part time and took a position with Amazon. He really enjoyed working for this company up until his final days. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Interment will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis TN 38125. The VA has not yet assigned a date for his service.
