Emmett E. Hatchett

September 15, 1926 — February 3, 2012

Henderson, TN: Emmett Edsel Hatchett, age 85 passed away February 3, 2012 at Life Care Center of Columbia, TN.



He was born and reared in Huntsville, AL the son of the late Emmett Earl and Effie Renegar Hatchett. He went to high school at Hazel Green, AL. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Occupational Army in Japan. He married Margie Barnett in 1950 and they made there home in Decatur, AL. He worked as a rate clerk for NorFolk-Southern Railroad and later as data supervisor for Norfolk–Southern in Atlanta, where he retired.



He served as a deacon at the Avondale Church of Christ in Atlanta and as an elder at Chestnut Mountain Church of Christ.



They moved to Henderson in 2001. He and Mrs. Hatchett both served on the Advisory Board at Freed-Hardeman University. He was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ and they were active members of the Wednesday morning Bible Class at the Henderson Church.



Mr. Hatchett is survived by his wife, Margie Laverne Barnett Hatchett of Henderson; three sons, Dennis Hatchett and wife Libby of Atlanta, GA, Randy Hatchett and wife Sherry of Nashville and Ron Hatchett and wife Stephanie of Nashville and a daughter, Jan Hatchett King and husband Brian of Columbia, TN; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by a grandson Stephen Hatchett and a sister Geneva Raby.



Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Rob Hatchett, Milton Sewell and Ben Flatt officiating and burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens with Jeremy Butts and Jerry Elder officiating.
