Emily Katherine Clayton was born May 27, 1926 in Selmer, Tennessee the daughter of the late Ernest Willis and Ethel Kernodle Carothers.
She was united in marriage to Willie Hugh Clayton on February 14, 1947. Mr. Clayton preceded her in death on March 2, 2017 following 70 years of marriage.
Mrs. Clayton was a graduate of Bethel Springs High School and worked for Brown Shoe Company as a piece rate clerk for many years. She was baptized at a young age when the Bethel Springs church of Christ was meeting in the home of Hugh Clayton, and was a faithful member of the Fourth Street church of Christ in Selmer. Sewing, quilting, crocheting, and completing word search books were some of Mrs. Clayton's favorite pastimes. The money she helped raise as a member of the Needles and Pins Quilting Club was donated to assist in paying for the Bethel Springs Community Center. Mrs. Clayton was a hard worker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and always wanted to make certain everyone had enough to eat.
Mrs. Clayton departed this life on December 28, 2019 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee at the age of 93 Years, 7 Months, 1 Day. She is survived by a daughter, Anita (Clayton) Graham and husband Bob; a grandchild, Andrew Clayton (Andy) Graham and wife Madison; a great-grandchild, Ava Claire Graham; and a great-grandchild due in January of 2020.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by a grandchild, Matthew Shane (Matt) Graham; three sisters: Athalee (Carothers) Anderson, Mary Ellen (Carothers) Maness, and Ernestine (Carothers) South; and two brothers, Milburn Carothers and Roy Carothers.
