Ms. Hammons passed away Thursday night at Bolivar General Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1924 in McNairy County to the late Charles A. South and Beulah Sanford Woods South and lived most of her life in Bolivar. She loved her children and enjoyed working with flowers and piecing quilts. Ms. Hammons was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Ann Rush of Memphis, Judy H. Burnett and husband, Michael of Bolivar, Marcella H. McAlpin and husband, Lyn of Bolivar; two sons, Dennis LaRue Corder of Memphis, William Thomas Hammons of Bolivar; a sister, Zelphia Gray of Hillsdale, MI; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa Hammons.
