Eileen Emily Rogers, age 92 of Toone, Tennessee, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at Bolivar General Hospital.
Survivors include her seven children, Martha Klee of TN, Madeline Phillips of GA, John De Enoch of TN, Brenda Castleman of VA, Joyce Walton of MS, Kathy Roberts of TN, and B. Edward Rogers Jr. of TN. She has 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband Boyce E. Rogers, Sr.; father, John C. DeSilva; mother, Mary DeSilva; sister, Madeline Baptiste; and brother, George DeSilva.
Eileen was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on December 4, 1923, to John C. DeSilva and Mary Picanso DeSilva of Devonshire, Bermuda. Eileen was raised in Bermuda and was the oldest of five. Her siblings were George, Madeline, Arthur, and Joyce.
Mrs. Rogers received her education through the British school system, attending Catholic school in Bermuda. She obtained her diploma after completing the 8th grade, which was the highest level of education needed to receive such a diploma at the time.
She was a child of the Lord when she accepted Jesus through a Billy Graham radio program in April 1946. She was baptized in 1947 at Levi Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. She was a member of Hornsby Baptist Church for over 40 years.
She worked faithfully at Hornsby Elementary School for 10 years during the 1980’s and 1990’s in the cafeteria and as a custodian.
Eileen was devoted to her family and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her joyful outlook on life was a blessing to all who knew her.
