Effie Josephine Gobbell Matney was born on May 20, 1929, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Hobert and Roxie Nutt Gobbell.
On July 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to John Anderson Matney, who preceded his wife in death on December 25, 2003.
Effie was a member of the Pulaski Street Church of Christ. She loved embroidering, word search puzzles, gardening, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and Bible study. Effie will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, who will be missed dearly.
Effie Josephine Gobbell Matney departed this life on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
Effie is survived by her daughters, Barbara Sullivan of Manchester, Tennessee, and Charlotte Snider (Glenn) of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; son, Jerry Dayle Matney (Stella) of New Johnsonville, Tennessee; brother, Revis Gobbell (Ruth Ann) of Eads, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Effie was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Sue Matney; sister, Naomi Creecy; and brother, James Gobbell.
