Mr. Edwin B. ‘Chief’ Freeman, age 80, died Monday night at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Freeman was born in the Montezuma Community of Chester County and grew up in Henderson. He was the son of the late Elmer Lafayette (Jack) and Theola Marsh Freeman. He attended schools in Henderson and in 1942 entered the U. S. Navy and served with the Coast Guard in the South Pacific. He was married to Effie Siler in 1944 and after WWII he returned to Henderson.
He was employed by Bowyer and Johnson Construction Company in Jackson, later employed by Tal Enoch’s Service Station and Harold Hogancamp’s Service Station. He was a Henderson City Policeman for five years and later retired after 13 years with Holiday Inn in Jackson.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #485.
He is survived by two brothers; Robert L. Freeman and Jack Freeman both of Henderson, and three sister; Jackie Kirkhart of Dickson, TN, Billye Thompson of Nashville and Betty Kukoly of Freemont, NB. She was predeceased by one sister Doris Cagle.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday from the Chapel of Casey Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Smith officiating and burial will follow in the Henderson City Cemetery.
