Edwin Charles DeMore, 90, of Memphis, died Thursday, January
6, 2005 at Haywood Park Community Hospital.
The husband of Hazel Fleming DeMore, who survives, he was a
chemical engineer with Grace Chemical for 20 years and Ralston-
Purina for over 5 years. Mr. DeMore was born December 16, 1914
in Cromwell, Connecticut, son of the late Joseph and Sarah Burke
DeMore. He moved to Memphis in 1954, spending his last few
years in Brownsville. Mr. DeMore served in the U.S. Navy during
WWII as a Warrant Officer I on the USS Hughes. His tour included Midway, the Coral Sea, the Aleutian Islands, the recapture of Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, the Phillipines
and the occupation of Japan from 1936-'39. An avid hunter and
fisherman, he was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in
Memphis.
Graveside services were 1 pm Saturday, January 8 at Grand
Junction City Cemetery with Will Jones officiating. Shackelford
Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
In addition to his wife, whom he married July 14, 1946, survivors
include one daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Randall Taylor
and one brother, Bernard DeMore of Cromwell, Connecticut.
