Earleen Smith

Earleen D. Smith, age 95 of Grand Junction, passed from this life Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Pleasant View Healthcare.She was born March 30, 1913 in Rogers Springs to the late Robert E. and Velma Williams Downen. She lived all of her live in the area, growing up in Hickory Valley and spending much of her adult life in Grand Junction. April 5, 1931, she married D. W. Smith, who later preceded her in death December 20, 1993. She worked as a sales clerk at Tipler's Gift Shop and Smith's Grocery and was a member of the Grand Junction Baptist Church.She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Epting and her husband James of Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Douglas Downen of Yakima, WA, Wallace Downen of Bolivar and William (Bill) Downen of Middleton; three half-brothers, Leon Downen of Middleton, Robert Downen of Rossville, and Joe Downen of Bolivar; one half-sister, Jerry Downen Tranum of Middleton; two stepsisters, Mary Lou Byrd of Lakeland and Ester Roberts of Arlington; one granddaughter, Leah Epting of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eldiva Francis Pope and Vera Downen; her stepmother, Cuba L. Downen; and a half brother, Hugh Downen.
