Mr. Mayfield died Thursday evening, October 25th, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.
He was born in Hardeman county, the son of E. A. Mayfield, Sr. and Wilma Parthenia Sweeton Mayfield, and lived all of his life here. He married Ruby Mainers on January 25, 1942. Mrs. Mayfield died February 24, 1985 after 43 years of marriage. Mr. Mayfield was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church near Silerton for over 60 years and had served as a deacon. He was a retired farmer and boiler room operator at Western Mental Health Institute for 25 years. A veteran of WW2, he served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater. His hobbies included gardening and growing flowers.
Survivors include two daughters, Velinda Gail Powers of Middleton and Tammy Faye Mayfield of Jackson; two sons, Don Allen Mayfield of Toone and Glenn William Mayfield of Rosemark, TN; seven grandchildren, Ricky and Mechelle Powers, Paul, Christy, Cassandra, Shawn and Dustin Mayfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Ina Mae Taylor; and two brothers, Rozell Mayfield and Elbert Taylor.
