E. J. Ayers of Waynesboro, TN was born May 4, 1935 in Collinwood, Tennessee, the son of the late Thomas Green and Cloy Gertrude Cooper Ayers. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Deloris Hallowell on March 14, 1981.
He was a United States Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post # 254, of the Baptist faith, and was retired from Collinwood Manufacturing as a mechanic.
Mr. Ayers departed this life on December 13, 2011 at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee at the age of 76 Years, 7 Months, 9 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Deloris Ayers of Waynesboro, TN; daughters, Sherry Butler of Murfreesboro, TN, Sandy Martin and husband, Jeffery of Cynthiana, Ky, Jami Duren and husband, Brandston of Waynesboro, TN; grandchildren, Daykoda, Dylan, Ethan, and Chloe Martin and Shelby Duren; brother, Tommy Ayers and wife, Barbara of Collinwood, TN; a sister, Joyce Hamm and husband, Dennis of Waynesboro, TN; brother-in-law, Revo Reece of Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bell Reece.
Services will be Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Jeff Davis officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Brandston Duren, Steve Devers, Tony Lowery, Jeff Martin, Dylan Martin and Daykoda Martin with Kenneth Martin as an honorary pallbearer.
