Durelle Wilkins Burton was born July 6, 1922 in Adamsville, TN the daughter of the late William McKinley Wilkins and Jewel Vinson Wilkins.
She was united in marriage to Ewing Sitman Burton in 1942. Mr. Burton preceded her in death on September 21, 1977.
Mrs. Burton graduated from Adamsville High school and held the state basketball scoring record of 63 points in one game for over 30 years. She left Adamsville to attend Memphis State University to play basketball. She continued her education until the beginning of World War II. At that time, she went to work for Fisher Aircraft, it was there that she met her husband. In 1955, they returned to Adamsville to make their home.
Mrs. Burton started working with Dr. H.W. Vinson in 1957 and worked in the capacity of licensed practical nurse then later on as the office manager. She retired in the mid 90's only because Dr. Vinson retired. She was a 78 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Adamsville, Tennessee. She loved her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. Her hobby and great love was growing roses.
Mrs. Burton departed this life on December 19, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 89 Years, 5 Months, 13 Days. She is survived by a son, Tommy Burton and wife Jere of Selmer, TN; a brother, Weldon Wilkins of Savannah, TN; two grandchildren, Chad Burton and wife Jamie of Arlington, TN, Julie Dallas and husband Russel of Rosemark, TN; four great grandchildren, Kirk Burton, Emilee Burton, Abbey Dallas, Audrey Dallas; host of extended family and friends.
